In recent years, the structure of organizations has changed, so as the design of offices. In the past offices used to be location specific and organizations usually owned its own space or long term lease. The space was highly territorial and had a strong physical branding. The interaction within organization was very formal because of the office structure. The space was limited to physical space and mobile technology.

On the other hand, the number of flexible offices nowadays are expanding and it changes the structure of organization itself, encouraging communication, freedom and creativity. As organizations are based within many different locations, because some of the work might be outsourced elsewhere, it is common for organizations to have offices in many different locations therefore short term lease is becoming increasingly popular. The space within organization is usually shared with other companies. Brand expression that is created within an office tend to be temporary as it varies internally. The office is designed to provide flexibility, connection and effectiveness between employees. Also, physical space and mobile technology has been replaced by virtual and physical space.
